Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre is situated on the banks of the River Lee in County Kerry. It is both a nature and activity attraction, as well as a world renowned Natura 2000 site. The modern and eco-friendly visitor orientation centre provides an introduction to the Tralee Bay ecosystem and all of its amenities, as well as the local history. Although close to the town of Tralee it has a sense of being out in the wilds, it is so peaceful and tranquil.

The diversity of the Tralee Bay ecosystem is explained through the use of information boards and interactive displays, aquatic tanks, audio-visual and hands-on activities. With the entrance fee visitors get a short guided wildlife walk, and a ten minute safari boat ride that takes them through the freshwater wetlands and marshes to spot various waterfowl, waders and wildlife in their natural habitat. The tour guides are friendly, really passionate and enthusiastic they will answer all questions and really enhance a visit here.

The wetlands area is in excess of one hundred hectares and stretches from Tralee town to the Maharee Islands. It comprises of recreated fresh and saltwater habitats where visitors can see the incredible diversity of birds and other wildlife up close.

The activity zone contains a light watersports lake, 2.2 kilometres of walk and cycle paths, as well as a smaller lake that is well stocked with freshwater fish, where young and novice anglers can learn to fish. Activities on the lake include, pedal boats, canoes, rowing boats and water walker zorbs, these are all available for hire. Picnic areas are dotted about so visitors can take along their own food.

Other amenities include pond dipping activities, bird hides, a playground and a climbing wall. There is access to a twenty metre high viewing and observation tower that has both a lift and stairs to facilitate all visitors. There are fabulous scenic views of the Bay from here.

The centre is home to a cosy lakeside cafe with views out over the watersports lake, relax here with a tasty treat and hot drink, or sample some of the delicious home-cooked dishes available. Also located here is a small shop.

Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre is open daily throughout the year. It is a great facility, vibrant on one hand yet tranquil as well, there are facilities to cater to all interests and ages and makes for a great day out.
