Powerscourt Golf Club is located in the east of Ireland in county Wicklow, it is situated on a historic 13th century estate amongst 1,000 acres of mature woodland and pastures, with the Wicklow Mountains and Irish Sea providing an impressive backdrop.

The club is home to two excellent championship courses the East Course and the West Course. The West Course is the newer of the two and was designed by David McClay Kidd, opening in 2003. It has a modern feel to it. This parkland 18 hole course is a par 72, measuring 6,512 yards from the back tees. The West Course is a traditional parkland track but, has an entirely different feel to its sister course.

The course again benefits from a good design and layout, that is relatively open and occasionally enters the wooded areas. It has more elevations and uses the shapeliest terrain, the landscape is dominated by towering ancient trees. Throughout the course you get continous views of Powerscourt House and the Wicklow hills.

Features of this course include:

  • tiered greens,
  • numerous strategically placed bunkers
  • and there are also some monster holes.
  • It has a more daring feel to it as it moves up and down and criss crosses through trees, over streams and around ponds,
  • there is continually something to see.

There are some great par 3’s and also some tough uphill par 4’s. A highlight of the back nine holes is the 15th when you ascend to get wonderful views of the Irish Sea. The West Course is a technical course with some very long holes. You will find a course that is well maintained, and probably of the highest standard around. The sand based undulating greens are exceptional, they are larger than usual and run fast and true, the fairways are quite wide, the holes are well defined by the bunkering.Powerscourt is almost a synopsis of Ireland’s natural beauty.

It is certainly a scenic course but also a challenging and fun course to play, it really has it all.
