Luttrellstown Castle Golf Club is situated in the tranquil and historic Luttrellstown Castle walled estate amongst 560 acres of beautiful rolling countryside, in the Dublin area.
Luttrellstown Castle dates back to the 15th century and provides an impressive backdrop for this wonderful course. The course dates back to 1993 and is the work of designers Tom MacKenzie and Donald Steel, in 2006 it underwent an entire renovation where all holes were modified and enhanced. This 18 hole par 73 parkland course, measures 7,347 yards from the championship tees, therefore making it a long course.
It is identified as one of the country’s top courses.The course design and layout is excellent and has made the most out of the natural contours of the land whilst harmonising with the landscape.
With extensive features, including
- gentle undulating terrain,
- winding streams and
- other water features, as well as
- strategically placed links style bunkers, the result is a tricky course.
The lush and fertile land that surrounds the castle provides the ideal parkland setting, this classic course meanders through mature trees and along natural water features. Water features prominently here and is found on eleven of the holes, there are lovely panoramic views across the River Liffey and Dublin Mountains. There is a good variety of holes here, each offering their own challenges. All of the par fives and fours are demanding here, six of the par four holes are over 400 yards.
It is a course that requires long drives off the tees, big hitters will fare well here so be prepared to open those shoulders.It is a beautifully maintained course and you will find it in pristine condition, it is said to have some of the best putting surfaces in the country. The undulating sand-based greens are large, they are true and run fast, the generous sculpted fairways are consistent, there are well integrated sand bunkers, although there are not too many of these and the rough is not too dense, so you won’t be penalised too hard if you land here.
