Geokaun Mountain and Fogher Cliffs are located on Valentia Island in County Kerry, in the south west of Ireland. Geokaun is the highest mountain on the island at 270 metres (888 feet), as well as being one of the highest points in County Kerry. Fogher Cliffs are on the northern face and form the edge between this mountain and the Atlantic Ocean, they are sea cliffs of 180 metres (600 feet). The panoramic views from the here are simply spectacular, visitors can see the Skellig Islands, Bray Head, Blasket Islands, Dingle Peninsula, MacGillycuddy Reeks, several other mountain ranges, Valentia Harbour and out across the Atlantic Ocean.

Visitors have the option of walking or driving to the peak. The walk is not particularly long but is very steep. There are three car parking areas on the way up, the last car park leaves you about ten feet from the view point. There are a number of picnic benches in sheltered areas where visitors can stop and enjoy their lunch.

There are two kilometres of roadway/pathway that takes you to the summit, it is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. This pathway takes visitors to four fabulous viewing areas, the Miner’s view, the Shepherd’s view and Carraig na Circe, as well as the peaks. Positioned along the cliffs are fifty large information plaques detailing a number of social and historical information pertaining to Valentia Island and its surroundings, as well as covering local mythology, fauna and geography of the area, they are very helpful in understanding this area.

There is a loop walk from Carraig na Circe, it is well signposted, as well as a number of other walks that are pointed out along the way. If you have time take a visit to the Tetrapod Footprints.

Wild goat can be found up here and if lucky you might get to see one. There is plenty to see up here and each season brings its own colours and new things to discover. The views from here are picture perfect, simply breathtaking, and the sense of peacefulness and tranquility is fabulous, allow some time to savour it.

Make sure to take some warm clothing and even rain gear, it is quite blustery up here and the temperature drops.
