Shannon Golf Club is located along the banks of the River Shannon in County Clare to the west of Ireland. The club was founded in 1966, with the course being designed by John D Harris. The course over the years has matured especially well and has evolved into one of the best inland courses in Munster and Ireland. It is a parkland course par 72, measuring 6,228 yards from the medal tees.
This parkland course has been beautifully designed and makes the most out of its natural setting, fusing into the landscape with ease. The course weaves through the meadows and mature trees. Nature has a substantial role here as is evident from the flora and fauna that surround the course, and the fairways that harmonize with the beautiful natural meadows. The River Shannon forms the backdrop to this wonderful course and can be seen from all holes. Water hazards feature heavily here and are present on a number of the holes. There is some nice holes here. Strategically placed trees and bunkers together with the wind that blows from the Shannon Estuary ensure that though and consideration is given to each shot, accuracy is essential. The length of many of the holes provide a stern test for even the longest hitters. It is a course that will challenge all abilities.
The course is maintained to the highest standards, the curvaceous greens are a mixture of sand-based and traditional and are protected by numerous sand bunkers to offer the final challenge to each hole, they are consistent and fairly fast, the tree lined rolling fairways are lush.
A beautiful and under-rated course which is not be missed on a trip to the Shannon area.

Our Favourite Hole
The 17th par 3, 213 yards is the signature hole which requires a dedicated golf shot over the Shannon Estuary, to reach a flat green that is protected by a bunker on the left. The edge of the estuary is 35 yards from the middle of the green. Concentration is fundamental here don't let yourself be distracted by your surroundings.
