Macreddin Golf Club is located in Macreddin Village a beautiful and tranquil haven in County Wicklow. The course was Paul McGinley's first foray as a course designer and he has done an incredible job, creating a quality course that quickly garnered great critical acclaim. The course opened in 2008 so is a modern course, sitting on 160 acres of superb countryside. This 18 hole parkland course is a par 72, 7,100 yards, although not long, the course is really spread out. Although relatively new the course already has plenty of character.
The course has an imaginative layout and design, it comprises of two nine holes, spread across opposite hills, that meanders through the local countryside, of mature woodland and trees, rambling streams and brooks over the gentle undulating grounds. He has made great use of the natural forestation and the result is a challenging and visually stimulating course, with lovely panoramic views throughout. The free flowing Ballycreen Brook curves its way through the fairways of the back nine holes. The course favours accurate play and places emphasis on ball control. It is a gentle undulating course, with championed run-offs around the greens, each shot will require a thought process. There are a few risk and reward holes here, all of the holes are interesting and creative, and a few are memorable, with no weak holes here. Although it appears to be an easy course at first this dramatically changes with the back nine holes being considerably stronger and tougher. The final four are truly outstanding. The undulating nature and distance between greens and tees involves a lot of walking, a buggy is the best way to get around.
The course is well maintained, the protected greens are generally narrow but firm and the striking fairways are generous and tree-lined, the gorse is heavy and the strategically placed bunkers are large, you will encounter huge elevation changes as well as blind shots.
The concept here was to create a thoroughly enjoyable golfing experience and this has certainly been achieved, you will have a fun and challenging game that requires imagination and creativity in your play.

Our Favourite Hole
There could only be one hole for us, although there are many wonderful ones to choose from. Without a doubt it is the dramatic 4th hole, a par 3, 219 yards not least because of the views it offers of the surrounding countryside, but of the elevated view of the green that is positioned 100 feet below. Time almost stands still while you wait for the ball to drop, a really memorable hole.
