The Killeen Course is situated on the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, it is very much the flagship and sterner course at this 54 hole establishment. The Killarney lakes and high mountain range give an impressive and breath-taking backdrop to this Championship course. The course dates back to 1972 and was re-opened in June 2006 following some improvements and minor modifications, the result is a marginally longer course with faster greens that have been brought nearer to the water hazards around the course. It is a par 71 course, measuring 6,652 from the back tees.
This mature parkland course has a nice layout, in a stunning setting, the ground is flat so is easy to walk around. Some of the holes are awesome, particularly those along the lake, there is not a weak hole here, they are varied and exciting. The course uses natural features as hazards in particular the mature trees and lakes, the local deer also like to make an appearance. The course will challenge long hitters although accuracy is necessary as water features prominently here, it is effectively used on virtually every hole. The par three holes here are outstanding and exciting.
The course is immaculately maintained, the large undulating sand-based greens are true and fast, some are elevated, the firm fairways are tree-lined and fairly generous although they appear narrower. Stay away from the rough it is dense, the bunkers are strategically placed.
The challenging golf is matched by the spectacular views and its tranquil setting, take time to enjoy them but don't let them distract you from your game. It is a particularly enjoyable course but it does not lack toughness, you will be suitably challenged here whatever your handicap.
This is a truly spectacular course and has everything you could want in a parkland course and more. Anyone who has played Killarney Killeen is keen to return as soon as possible. Although County Kerry is best known for its Links courses, this is a parkland course which you do not want to miss on a tour to the South West of Ireland.

Our Favourite Hole
There are so many stunning golf holes on this course with each hole presenting a different challenge, as well as incredible views. However, for us, although it is unlucky for some, it has to be the 13th hole! It is a magnificent par 4. Known affectionately as the "Tiger Hole," this super golf hole is not for the faint hearted. It is a terrific risk/reward hole, you will be extremely happy if you walk off the 13th green with a par, and you won't be all that displeased if you shoot a bogey 5!
