Headfort Golf Club is found in the small town of Kells in County Meath, the club dates back to 1928 and enjoys a 36 hole layout with two courses located here, the Old and the New Course. The New Course was designed by Christy O'Connor Jnr and opened in 2000, it is a par 72, measuring 7,125 yards from the blue tees, it is a long course. It is definitely the tougher of the two courses.
This modern parkland course has a great open layout that blends with the landscape beautifully, making use of two islands, it features all types of terrain and natural obstacles and enjoys a beautiful setting, with mature native trees, the River Blackwater criss-crosses the course, Headfort House provides a pretty backdrop and lots of wildlife can be found here. It is an undulating course that has a number of water hazards that will test your accuracy, in fact fourteen holes contain water. The holes are all interesting and varied, well designed and engaging. You will find the greens difficult to read. It has some of the finest par three's that you will ever see, three of them are surrounded by water.
The course has a mature feel about it and is immaculately maintained, it is manicured and pristine, the large undulating greens are consistent, true and fast, the firm fairways are long and lush. The rough is light so not to punishing if you stray here, with strategically placed bunkers. The course can be quite hilly so it might be best to hire a buggy.
The New Course is not only visually stunning, it is also a pleasure to play whilst being challenging too, it wil certainly test your accuracy, it provides the full golf package.

Our Favourite Hole
Such is the quality of this fabulous course that we could have chosen nearly all of the holes as our favourite. After much deliberation we have settled on the par 4, 12th hole. This hole requires a calm and composed approach to the green as it is surrounded by water. With water featuring the entire length of this hole, anything to the right from the tee to green is wet! A spectacular test of strategy, skill and accuracy makes this hole a joy to play.
