Course Description

Dun Laoghaire Golf Club sits strikingly between mountains and the sea in Ballyman Glen, an exceptionally stunning valley on the borders of Counties Dublin and Wicklow, it offers some of the best views around. One of the best courses for golfing in Ireland, the 27 hole parkland championship course has been designed to allow different combinations of the three nine hole courses to be played, it was designed by Martin Hawtree. It is a par 69 course and measures from 6,543 to 6,281 metres from the blue tees.

This tree lined parkland course sits on 320-acres, offering players the option to mix and match the three different loops of nine, referred to as the Upper Middle Course, Upper Lower Course and Lower Middle Course. All tees start and finish close to the clubhouse. The course is well laid out with a nice selection of holes. It is a course that you can easily walk around.

The Lower Course is the shortest and you will find a water features on a number of the fairways, providing a unique character. The large undulating greens are misleading and especially with the changes in elevation on a lot of the holes, some consideration will need to be given before you take a shot, owing to the cleverly located hazards. However, the undulating grrens reward those with a strong short game.

The course is flawless The greens are large, fast and true, the fairways are cut very tight and are fairly generous. There is a lot of heavy rough to contend with, the bunkers are well placed.

For the professional and club golfer alike, a thrilling golfing experience awaits you on this modern course, with the wonderfully inspiring backdrop of the Wicklow mountains and the strong features found here. It is a fair but tough course and will reward those that play well. It will definitely challenge all level of golfer.

Facilities available here are an excellent practice area, golf academy, bowling green and a lovely modern clubhouse.

Our Favourite Holes

We are drawn to the 9th hole here on the lower course, it is a par 5, 446 metres. It is an uphill drive back to to the clubhouse. There is a large beech tree that is to be avoided on your approach shot, if you get past this it leaves you open to more options for your second shot.

On the middle course we have opted for the 2nd hole here, it is a par 3, 202 metres. It requires a shot over the stream and valley that flows down the western side of the course. The long green is then protected by bunkers however, it opens out at the front and if you get a good straight shot you will be rewarded.

For the Upper Course it has to be the 4th hole, a par 5, 206 metres. It is all about the views on the tee box, the green appears to be located in the side of the Sugar Loaf mountain.
