Course Description

Ballyliffin Golf Club is located in the scenic Inishowen Peninsula and is Irelands most northerly course, it dates back to 1947 and is situated amongst 365 acres of glorious duneland that is surrounded by rolling hills and mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. There are two superb Championship Links Courses here and you will be delighted by either course, both offer a true links experience.

The newer course is the Glashedy Links and it was originally designed by Pat Ruddy and Tom Craddock who created this fabulous course taking full advantage of the natural landscape and the course has been designed around the incredible dunes, it certainly makes the most out of its spectacular location. It is well laid out and you will not find a weak hole on the course, it is positioned on the higher ground above the Old Links course. What awaits you at this course, there are large undulating greens, deep bunkers and fairways that curve and arc amidst the imposing dunes. It is a course that is sure to challenge any golfer, Rory McIlroy himself said it is a very tricky and a very good test. You need to keep on top of your game throughout if you are to stand any chance against this course. It is not surprising that this course continually ranks amongst the top courses in the world.

Don't expect to find much flat ground here, you will be amongst the rolling dunes and this certainly adds another dimension to your golfing experience, as does the constant wind that blows here. It is a beautiful rugged course that embraces its natural surroundings, the difficulty might be concentrating on your game rather than the stunning scenery. Many players have said that it is the most natural links course they have ever played.

Both Glashedy Links and The Old Links are amongst the top golf courses in Ireland, with the courses recently being voted 11th and 21st respectively in the prestigious Golf Digest Ireland Top Courses List.

Tournaments hosted at Ballyliffin Glashedy Links

  • Ladies Irish Open: 1998

Our Favourite Hole

After much discussion it was agreed that the seventh hole is the best on the course, it is a par 3 that is played from the top of a sand dune to a green that is enshrouded by bunkers on three sides and a lake on the remaining side, and don't forget the winds. A true test of your abilities.
