The K Club North Course

The K Club is located in Kildare in the east of Ireland in a luxurious and idyllic setting amongst 550 acres of rolling countryside in a large estate. The resort is home to not one but two highly regarded course, The North Course (Ryder Cup) and The South Course.

The North course was designed by none other than Arnold Palmer and was opened in 1991 to much accolade as it is quite simply one of Europe’s most spectacular courses and is undeniably one of the premier Parkland Courses in Europe. The course is a par 72 and measures 7,337 yards from the blue tees, a seriously long course.

  • The design and layout of the course is superb and
  • it complements the landscape brilliantly,
  • as it sits amongst the tall trees,
  • undulating terrain and
  • meandering River Liffey.

What awaits you here is a course that has ample features to test your abilities and thinking strategies. Style features include, tall trees, long extending fairways, water, several tricky dog legs, elevation changes, undulating greens, bunkers in addition to punishing rough areas. There is a fantastic selection of holes here, interesting, challenging and scenic, you will not find a weak hole on this course, they are all real risk and reward ones. A number of the holes are played by the River Liffey, and they can be quite intimidating. The four par 5’s here are perhaps the strongest set of holes in the country.

Although it is a challenging course, as you are up against one great course design,

  • it is aesthetically pleasing,
  • it charms,
  • it entices and
  • typically encourages you to play your very best game!

As expected the course is in excellent shape, the greens are large and quite flat but roll nicely, at a nice pace, the fairways are relatively wide, the rough is thick and difficult, in the form of gorse and heather, then there are the wide flat bunkers that are strategically placed throughout.

Consistently ranking in the top 3 parkland golf courses in Ireland, this Palmer designed golf haven is a must play for all golf devotee’s, who wouldn’t want to say I have played a course that has hosted The Ryder Cup in 2006 and 11 European Opens. The Palmer course is in essence a combination of American design with Irish natural beauty.
