Literary Pub Crawl

Ireland has produced throughout the ages a number of literary greats and it goes without saying that over the years they have frequented many of the watering holes throughout the city, many say that all that writing and creativity is thirsty work. Over the years many a tall tale and story has been announced and imparted at a well-used bar counter.

The Literary Pub Crawl is taken by actors and storytellers and immerses guests into the rich literary heritage of Dublin with the inclusion of a few pints along the way. This is a walking tour so be sure to dress appropriately. It is a blend of street theatre and plenty of craic, and is a fabulous introduction to the city's literary past and lively pub culture. Participants can look forward to a lively, educational and entertaining experience. The meeting point is at the Duke Pub, guests are then taken through the narrow streets and main streets of Dublin taking in the sights and sounds that were inspiration to the many great Irish writers, whilst following in their footsteps. There are a total of four stops in famous pubs and haunts, such as, the Brazen Head, Davy Byrne's, Neary's , Oliver St John Gogarty, Palace Bar, Toner's and many more. Throughout actors recite prose, verse, drama and song from the best in Irish literature. Then there are the trivia questions along the way that add a further layer of fun to an already highly entertaining experience.

Many of these pubs are long established and date back to pre Victorian times, one even dates back as far as 1198. They retain much of their traditional decor, have a rustic feel and a unique atmosphere.

Once inside these establishments visitors can savour the friendly and welcoming atmosphere and the warmth inside these quiet pubs. Who knows that stool you are sitting on, or the snug you are comfortable in could well have been used by any one of the literary greats. Whilst enjoying a drink guests can learn all about the lives of these revered writers and hear some of the hilarious stories that have become folklore in Dublin's literary circles.

This tour has so much more to offer than other tours, some real Irish culture, more detail, personality and above all hospitality. The guides are fantastic, so witty, enthusiastic and informative and keep everyone engaged throughout.

Literary Pub Crawls run throughout the year, April to November nightly, December to March from Thursday to Sunday. There is an additional tour at 12 noon on a Sunday during the year.
